"Down there"
What do women call their pudenda? I am familiar with the legion of terms used by males, usually inaccurate, degrading and anatomically ludicrous. But what term do women use? What do mothers teach their daughters? I find that many, loath to use a "naughty word", opt for what they consider to be anatomically correct. Thus, vagina seems to be emerging as the acceptable word. This of course is nonsense; the vagina is an internal organ and can be visualised only with a speculum. The correct term for the female external genitalia is vulva. This term lacks a certain degree of euphony for everyday use. I propose that we legitimise Pussy, which, if detached from its scurrilous usage, would be simple and adequately descriptive and certainly suffieiently cute for little children.
